June 2013 Birchbox

birchbox

Birchbox is a monthly subscription service for upscale beauty products.  For $10, you get a box with 4-5 generous samples including makeup, skincare, fragrance, body, and hair care. There’s no commitment to subscribe to more than one month, so it’s really low risk.  You can review the products you receive each month for 10 points, and when you get to 100 points, it’s worth $10 off any product.  So basically, after 2 months of reviews, you should have $10 off.  Products that were sent in any of the Birchboxes for the month (not just yours) are eligible for free shipping, so you can get some really good deals.  Wanna try Birchbox?  I’d love it if you used my referral invite: Click here.

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($18): I love this.  I’m a huge fan of dry shampoo because I have oily hair and I finally figured out that if I spray my roots before I go to bed, and then again after I shower in the morning (keeping my hair dry), it has great body and doesn’t get oily.  I even went two days one weekend with this product when I was visiting my parents.  There are cheaper brands out there, but this one does seem to work slightly better.

twistband Birchbox Nautical Hair Tie Collection ($14):  This hair tie is really cute and works reasonably well if I’m just wearing my hair up casually.  It doesn’t hold tight enough for me for workouts, but that’s because my hair is superfine – or as Lo says, like doll’s hair.

Youngblood Hi-Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder ($36):  This powder works really well, but I don’t use powder very often so I wouldn’t bother to purchase it (and I still have a high-end hi-def powder from my wedding to use).  I also have another finishing powder with SPF that I would use instead.  This one is still a great powder – just not one that I need (or would be willing to pay that price for).

Furlesse Elevens Frown Line Reducing Patches ($19.99):  I haven’t used these yet, but I can’t see how they would work well enough to bother.  I may just give them to my mom.

Color Club® Wanderlust Collection Nail Polish ($8):  This polish is a milky light green color that was super ugly on my toes.  Once I put a coat of glitter polish on top, it was okay, but it’s a pretty ugly color on its own (maybe it’s good for tan people?).

This box has some hits and misses, but the dry shampoo makes up for any misses!  Everything else is just bonus.
