Marlowe update: 5 months old

Marlowe is 5 months old!  This month was a little rough with her still.  The biggest change is that we got her on Zantac, and as much as she hates taking it, it seems to be helping.  She isn’t fussy all day long like she used to be and she’s nursing better, so those things are a huge improvement.  She still wasn’t sleeping great – still waking 3-4 times a night (foreshadowing: it got worse this next month).

So now that she wasn’t fussy all day, she’s more fun, naturally.  She likes to squeal and grab at all of her toys.  She “talks” to Boof whenever she sees her.  It’s so funny because she uses different sounds than she does for anyone else.  She looooves kisses and her “Miss Marlowe Belle” song that we sing to her (Miss Mary Macke with made up words).  She immediately breaks into a smile.  She’s still a little weird with other people looking at her or holding her sometimes.  She’s a clingy little thing.

In all, she was a trooper this month.  She got dragged around to tons of playdates for Jenson, to the Zoo, to Young’s Dairy (met Nana), and she had a weekend without her daddy when he went to the Indy 500. She did get some time alone with us though when Jenson stayed at Nana and Papaw’s.  She and I went shopping at Easton and we went to dinner.  She’s not as well behaved in a restaurant as Jenson was, so we had to hurry to eat when she started crying.  She was SO happy to see Jenson when he came home though.  So was he.

She had a few days of a fever too.  We took her to the Dr. and she said that hand food and mouth was going around and there was a sore in her throat, so she assumed it was that.  She said the fevers would get worse and she’d probably get other sores or rash, but she never did, luckily.  No one else got it either, so maybe it wasn’t actually that.  Doesn’t matter, I’m just glad she didn’t get worse and she handled things well.  She was sleepy during those few days.  We just laid low and kept whatever germs she may have had contained at our house.

We closed out the month with a long Memorial Weekend.  We went to the Zoo, to a food truck festival, and met Nana at Young’s Dairy for a day while Lo was at the Indy 500.

Marlowe: April 29 – May 28

Age: 5 months old

Weight:  13 lbs., 2 oz. at the end of the month

Length:  25 inches (90%) She’s a tall one!

Clothing size:  She’s wearing 3-6 and 6 month.  Size 2 diapers.

Hair:  Her hair lays down really well on the sides now, but its mostly rubbing off in the back.  It’s still a goldish or ginger color, depending on the lighting and when it was washed last.

Eyes:  Bright blue

Teeth:  None, but loves chewing on anything she can and grinding her gums together

Temperament:  She’s more often happy now.  She loves interacting with her people and is smiley unless she’s tired usually.  She laughs when tickled and it’s the best.  She loves kisses along her jawline and across her mouth.  The Zantac definitely seems to be helping her get back to her happy self.

Sleeping:  We still haven’t figured things out with sleeping.  She wakes every 2-3 hours at night, but does sleep more soundly in between nursing.  She sleeps in the rock n play still.  Probably time to move her out of there, but the little sleep I get is better than none.  She still was taking a ton of short naps through the day – like 6 or 7, usually in the swing or in her baby seat when we are out and about.  Sometimes she’ll nap for a little longer if I lay there with her, but that only works if I can get her down while Jenson is napping.  Often she sleeps during his lunch and then is awake for most of his nap.

Eating:  All breastmilk.  She’s nursing much better in all positions.  I don’t know if it’s the Zantac or the chiropractic treatments, or both…but it’s a relief.  We stopped with the extra bottles of pumped milk since she’s nursing better and they didn’t seem to be helping with much anyway.  I definitely plan to wait until 6 months for other food.

Movement:  She grabs everything and puts it right in her mouth and chews on it.  She stopped rolling over this month – just not really interested.  She loves holding her feet though, especially when she can get her toes to her mouth.  She’s flexible!
