Running low on chocolate chips = Costco

Running low on chocolate chips = Costco

Growing up, there were always chocolate chips in the house.  My mom made homemade chocolate chip cookies regularly – probably weekly or every other week- and still does.  We would often help (or lick batter), or when we were older, make them ourselves.  I still remember my sister putting in a tablespoon of salt instead of a teaspoon.  That batch was a little salty.  Chocolate chips were a staple in our house, as much as milk and bread are for most people.

So even though I don’t make homemade chocolate chip cookies regularly (or even occasionally), I HAVE to have chocolate chips available in the pantry – just in case I need them for something.  They are pretty versatile, so I feel like whatever sweet I want, I can make it happen as long as I have chocolate chips.

There are a few things that I get concerned about when we start running low: cheese, frozen blueberries, and chocolate chips.  Those are things that were always in abundance at my mom’s house, so I guess there’s reason behind that.  So when my giant chocolate chip container gets low, it’s time to go to Costco.

I usually buy the Kirkland brand, but the Nestle ones were on sale so I got them instead.  I did a super scientific taste test when I refilled the container and found that I prefer the taste of the Kirkland Chocolate Chips (Costco brand) – they taste more “real”.  But, my chocolate chip container is full, the cheese drawer is full, and my mom brought a couple of big bags of frozen blueberries (picked from her blueberry bushes), so I’m all set.
