Unbreakable records, er, Top 10 albums

Unbreakable records, er, Top 10 albums

I was listening to sports talk radio last week and the host said they’d be talking about their top 5 unbreakable records later.  I immediately starting thinking about my top 5 unbreakable records…trying to come up with my own list.  I thought about this for most of the ride home – and was trying to think of what Lo’s would be.

I came up with a few right away: Lepplin IV, Nirvana Unplugged…hmmm, which Beatles album…?

I figured Lo would have a Beatles album, maybe Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac, Gorillaz, Michael Jackson, Green Day?

And then it occurred to me (before the host came back to it) that duh…this is sports talk…he means unbreakable SPORTS records.  Makes much more sense since no one younger than 50 would call music albums “records”.  I know I certainly don’t call them that!  Sports records – yeah, I don’t have a list.  And as much as I love sports, I don’t really care.

I honestly couldn’t narrow it down to 5 albums.  That would require me kicking out ones that I wasn’t comfortable with forgoing.  This list doesn’t include Greatest Hits, because those are obvious.  These aren’t my favorite artists – just albums I could (and have) listen to over and over again without “breaking” them.

So here is my list of top 10 ALBUMS (not in order):

  1. Led Zeppelin: IV
  2. Nirvana: Unplugged (this could almost be considered a greatest hits, but it has songs/covers that aren’t from other albums, and some of the album songs I only like as acoustic)
  3. Beatles: Sgt. Pepper (though it was a fight between that and Revolver)
  4. Damien Rice: O (Lo hates this pick – he says Damien Rice puts him to sleep)
  5. Dixie Chicks: Home
  6. Cranberries: No Need to Argue
  7. Avett Brothers: I and Love and You
  8. Radiohead: The Bends
  9. Fleetwood Mac: Dreams
  10. Cold War Kids: Robbers and Cowards

Honorable mention: Def Leppard Hysteria (my first tape – I cried when it broke because I swore my sister did it).

I was sad that I couldn’t include an Elton John album – but I can’t fully endorse any of the non-greatest hits albums.  I think its because he has so many albums that none include all of the hits I would need.  His Greatest hits 2 would probably be the one I’d pick of those.  Same with Billy Joel, though The Stranger comes pretty close.  I also couldn’t choose Metallica, Metallica without “One”, but otherwise it would have been on there.

I need to come up with a top Soundtrack list so I can include the Teen Wolf soundtrack because I almost included it.  I wish I was joking, but every time one of the songs plays on my ipod, I’m happy.  Also – BeeGees Saturday Night Fever.

What are your top unbreakable albums?  The ones you could play over and over?
