Baby Watch: Week 8

(This is a look back on week 8.  I’m currently at 19.5 weeks, but want to get these all posted in order.)

Week 8: March 5 – Mar 11

Baby Size: Raspberry.  It definitely doubled in size because I had to have a 2nd ultrasound the week after the first because I was still having some spotting from my appointment.  Everything was okay – it was just a precaution.  You can see little arm and leg buds!baby

Maternity Clothes: No

Sleep: I still need a lot of sleep and naps.  Occasionally I can go a day without a nap.

Symptoms: Pretty much the same as last week.  Constant need for sleep, sore knockers, constant nausea (but no puking), having to pee at night (which totally sucks), I get out of breath at odd times and slightly more than usually (which I guess is all the hormones, not because I’m suddenly out of shape).

Workouts: Workouts weren’t great this week again.  I did yoga for the last time with Anne at our gym (she’s no longer teaching there).  It wasn’t a hard class, but a struggle a lot.  She encouraged me to start thinking about how I can focus on not expending so much energy with my moves – I think she noticed I was struggling.  Sometimes it’s important for me to get reminders like that – I usually want to push as much as I can.  I did a few elliptical workouts and had two volleyball games, so it wasn’t all that bad.

Best moment of the week: Another tie.  I already mentioned the 2nd ultrasound – which was a total bonus – and it was great to see that the baby had doubled in size in a week.  I felt a lot more confident after that.  The other best moment(s) were telling my family.  We went to visit my family since we hadn’t been home since Christmas and we had a free weekend.  I bought a “big sister” dog shirt for Boof to wear and that’s how we decided we’d tell my family since they love when she visits.

We stopped at my friend’s house on the way home because we hadn’t seen them for awhile and she was dying to meet Boof.  She was excited and gave me a lot of good tips about various things (she has a 1 1/2 year old).  My sister, brother in law, and niece were unexpectedly at my mom’s house when we arrived, so they all got to find out right away.  I snuck into the living room to slip Boof’s shirt on her and my mom followed me in there, but didn’t read the shirt.  My sister came in and read it and was like “So, is that true?”.  I said yes and she got up to hug me and my mom was like – “what? what’s going on?!”  We told her to read the shirt and she was so happy – she said she expected us to announce something when we came home at Christmas, but we never said anything (and I was drinking wine).  I think my brother-in-law was the most excited out of everyone and he started telling us cute stories about when my nieces were babies and such.  My dad (who is not an expressive person, unless he’s mad about something) was in the other part of the house when everyone else saw it and my sister asked what he thought Boof’s shirt meant and he said – does it mean they are going to have a baby?  My sister said yes and he said – “oh okay”.  Lol – he’s happy about it – like I said, not very expressive (at least I come by it honest).  Two of my other sisters, a nephew, and my grandma came over the next day and found out and were all thrilled with the news.  Christine (who knits up a storm) starting showing me all these adorable baby hats and stuff she’s been making and I told her she can make me anything she wants – I love homemade gifts.  We also text a pic of Boof in her shirt to my other sister who lives in Michigan to let her know.
Lo was surprised that no one was very surprised, but I think everyone knew we were heading in that direction – we bought a house in the suburbs, got a dog, and a new 4 door car to replace my 2 door car within the last year.  It was the obvious next step.

Movement: Nothing for a few more months probably

Food cravings: Mangos and blueberries.  I always want blueberries, pregnant or not, so I don’t know if I can call that a craving.  They were on sale this week and I loaded up because I HAD to have them.

Food aversions: Almost everything.  I force myself to eat breakfast and lunch and a snack or two.  Usually by dinner I’m okay to eat, but an hour or so later, I’m nauseous again.

What I miss: Sleeping through the night without peeing, enjoying food

What I’m looking forward to: Telling Lo’s family soon.

Milestones: 2nd ultrasound
