Happy Birthday Lo! and swim fun

Happy Birthday Lo! and swim fun

While Lo was slaving away at work on his birthday, I met a friend at the pool for a few hours with the kids.  Luckily her kids are older and can swim, so she was able to help out with mine.  Jenson has a puddle jumper life vest thing now, but he doesn’t quite trust it – even when he can easily touch.  He definitely got more comfortable as the morning went on though.  I spent my time trying to keep Marlowe out of the sun.  She’s not supposed to wear sunscreen yet, so I was keeping her shaded with clothing and, well, the shade.  She still got a small patch of sun on her wrist where her swim shirt didn’t cover.  It’s not too bad, considering it was 90 and we were outside for about 3 hours.  We ran into another friend of mine with her two kids while we were there too, so it was great catching up with her too.  I didn’t get many pictures…my hands were full, but I took these cute ones on a break.

In other news, we turned Jenson’s car seat around in the car (not the van yet) after cleaning up car sickness from that seat yet again.  Two Memorial Weekends in a row when Lo was at Indy, Jenson got sick in the car.  It’s awful.  He doesn’t ride in the car much, and not usually on long trips, so we decided to switch him around.  He’s plenty old/big enough to face forward anyway, but the recommendation is as long as possible, so we weren’t rushing.  I think he really likes it.  When we were at stoplights, I would turn and look at him and he’d get a huge smile on his face.  Of course, he was excited we were going swimming too.  Even being excited, he fell asleep before we got there.  He looks both like a boy and like a toddler to me in this picture.  So, so, so sweet.

After the pool, we ran into the store for a few things.  Jenson took a nap while I made Lo’s birthday cake – Better Batter Gluten Free Yellow Cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, decorated with 14 Reese’s Cups around the edge and some Chili Nut M&M’s.  Yes, that’s a thing…they aren’t bad – taste like peanut M&M’s with a slow burn at the end.  This was a similar cake to the one Boof ate a few years back, minus the M&M’s.

The first thing Jenson said over the monitor when he woke up from his nap was “Happy birthday Daddy!”.  We’d been practicing singing Happy Birthday in the car, and talking about having birthday cake, so he was pretty excited for Lo to get home from work.  When we were designing the birthday card, Jenson said it should say “Daddy’s Birthday” on it, and have a snowman, rainbow, sunshine, and sunflowers on it.  Done.  Lo opened his gifts (Fitbit Charge and a Flag set) and after Jenson ate dinner, we had cake and ice cream.

Jenson was so happy to eat cake and ice cream!  Well, we all were, except for Boof and Marlowe.  Boof was especially sad because she knows how good that cake is.  Happy Birthday Lo – you are the best!
