Popple Madness

This Facebook conversation happened between me and 3 of my sisters this weekend and it just cracked me up.  It started when Jackie text me to tell me to look up Reverse-a-Pals, which are new “fake” popples.  I had a popple growing up and when Jackie, Summer, and I used to share a room, we’d turn off the lights and try to hit each other with the popples while sitting in bed.  This usually caused a few shrieks of surprise which would lead to my mom yelling up the stairs.  We’d be quiet for 2 minutes and then keep playing (and laughing and shrieking), which would lead to my dad ninja-sneaking up the steps and busting open the door to paddle us.  My mom would appreciate if I’d point out that we didn’t get paddled a lot – she always thinks we exaggerate how much we got spanked and thinks it makes them look bad.  But, we totally deserved it and there is an appropriate way and time to discipline children with spankings, so I wouldn’t have changed that about my childhood.  They did as well as they could have with six kids!

This conversation was already funny and then Summer linked to the ebay seller “val cansell”, which is ONE letter off from my full name (and is selling the same popple that I had) – and it just got crazy.  I hadn’t read the comments after she posted that and then Christine text me and said she wanted to buy a popple and some fold up shoes – and I had NO idea what she was talking about.  I thought she was trying to text someone who was having a garage sale and accidentally text me.  Finally I was like – I don’t know what you’re talking about.  That’s when she told me to read the comments.  I was laughing so hard that Lo said there was something wrong with me.

I may have to snag my popple from my mom’s house when we visit my family this weekend so none of my sisters sell it on ebay!
