Baby Watch: Week 31

Another good week!  My belly looks like it’s popped so much more this week, but I don’t think it actually did so much.  I finally switched to a maternity shirt for the pictures since my other one was so tight and getting short, and that gave extra room for my belly to expand, so it looks much bigger.

Week 31: August 13 – 19 – Crenshaw Melon – Average size: 15.2 -16.7 inches, 2.5-3.8 lb. I have no idea what this melon is, but I’m looking forward to trying it.

Maternity Clothes:  All maternity pants except my yoga and sweat pants/capris, combination of maternity tops and regular tops.  I’ve borrowed some of Lo’s shirts to work out in and wear around the house.  It’s just more comfortable having a looser shirt when it’s hot.  It’s getting to the point when I’ll need some jeans this fall, and the pair I got are under-belly jeans and are not comfy.  They push my belly up and fall down.  I’m going to try to find a pair in the next few weeks – I’ll check the consignment store first, and if that fails, I’ll have to spend the money at the Gap probably.  I only need one pair.  I wear my jeans plenty of times before washing.

Sleep: I have to switch sides regularly, but aside from waking up to pee every night, I’m sleeping pretty well still.  The baby kicks the crap out of me while I’m trying to sleep. Sometimes I wake up and my hips are burning so bad.  It always takes me a minute to figure out what hurts, and then I just roll to the other side and it’s fine eventually.  I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I didn’t have a Snoogle.  I’m definitely dreaming more about having a baby.

Symptoms:  Nothing much.  Some days I get more tired than I expect, but when I’m not at work, I’m constantly on my feet, so I shouldn’t be surprised.  I have a lot of pressure from the baby pushing against my stomach.  I’m always saying “you can’t get out that way” to the baby.  I honestly don’t know if they are Braxton Hicks contractions or just the baby pushing.  I don’t feel any specific movements during that time, just a lot of pressure, and that usually only happens in the evening when I’ve been on my feet and busy around the house for a few hours.  I don’t think I’m waddling yet – I try to be conscious not to.  I know I’m going to start to need to take it easier soon, but I have so much to do!  People call it nesting, but there’s a lot of shit to get done before a baby!

Workouts:  I did yoga, a 100 leg workout, and the elliptical twice.

Good moments of the week:  Lots of good things this week.  We saw a bunch of our friends at a housewarming party on Friday – many whom we haven’t seen in months.  They were surprised how much I popped!  I had a good birthday on Saturday.  We went to brunch and did some work around the house.  Later we ran some errands and met Chuck and Kelley for dinner at Marcella’s.  Afterwards they came back here for cake that Lo made.  It was gluten free yellow cake with homemade nutella frosting.  So good!  We finished the night by watching tv.  I was so full from dinner and cake that we had to stay up an extra hour!  Sunday was stuff around the house and then dinner at Chuck and Kelley’s before Breaking Bad.

Food cravings:  Nothing specific this week.

What I miss: Sleeping though the night, wearing normal clothes, not having my belly rest on my thighs when I sit down, being able to do advanced moves in yoga, pushing myself in workouts.

What I’m looking forward to:  My local shower and the gender reveal is this weekend on Sunday!  Kelley has really outdone herself for this shower and it’s going to be great.  I’m excited to be able to start referring to the baby as he or she instead of trying to be careful.  We also have another doctor appointment on Friday.  On Saturday we are getting pictures taken – not maternity pics, but a photographer was offering 20 minute mini-sessions for $20 and I figured it would be a good chance for us to get a nice picture taken that we could use for the shower thank-yous.  We also have a couple of friend gatherings this weekend and some of my family coming to stay before the shower.

Milestones:  I can’t think of anything specific other than that I still feel great!  I feel so lucky that after the first trimester and once my higher-risk issues disappeared, things have gone so well.  I guess my milestone is that I turned 34!

It’s really kind of nice to not worry about holding my stomach in for pictures.  Normally it’s something I’m conscious about because I’ve never had a very flat stomach, but now I just let it hang out and it’s kind of great!

Boof wasn’t so thrilled with this week’s produce choice.  She had no idea what to do with it or how she could get into it, so she just licked the outside a little.
